Paul Melcher, President
As the membership numbers, committee participation and event attendance indicate, the Greater Powell Area Chamber of Commerce is an influential and growing part of the Powell business community. Your involvement provides numerous benefits: including networking with other businesses, advertising exposure, philanthropic initiatives, social events, as well as discounts on group healthcare, office supplies, supplemental insurance and workers compensation. With over 25% growth in business membership over the last three years, the Powell Chamber Board of Directors is working to enhance our services and build business relationships within the Powell and Southern Delaware County areas.

The first of the year initializes two significant steps for networking and growth. An Ambassador’s committee led by Steve Gorman, Executive Director of the Liberty Township YMCA, is leading the charge. Gorman’s group is working hand in hand with the Membership committee to educate and provide a resource to new members on the value and programs available to the businesses of the Powell Area.

Additionally, our Events committee is supplementing “Chamber Connections” and “Business After Hours” with the inaugural “Taste of Powell.” The lead event sponsor and host is the Columbus Zoo for the event planned on April 29. Mark your calendar now for an evening highlighting the incredible eating establishments of the Powell area.

It's Your Chamber!

The Chamber is comprised of local business people united to serve the Powell and Southern Delaware County business community. We are a member driven organization. Our goal is to enhance, promote and serve the local and business community with our primary focus being the success of our members.

Various other networking opportunities are scheduled throughout the year. Alternative Health Care Oasis and Nutritional Store kick the New Year off with a “Business After Hours” event on Tuesday, January 12 at Sawmill and Presidential Parkway. Studio J, 146 East Olentangy Street (Powell Center) follows with our first 2010 “Chamber Connections” starting at 8:00 a.m. on January 19. Other events include the annual golf outing and shred days.

Check your calendar and access our events schedule at PowellChamber.com to see what fits into your schedule. Also, thanks to a great group of students from the Olentangy School District, the Powell Chamber is using Facebook to reach new members and promote activities. To supplement these initiatives the Liberty Township YMCA will host the “Professional Side of Facebook” at our first business luncheon scheduled for January 29th.

The Chamber is also currently working on the Business and Community Directory, and we would love to see an ad from all of our members. Advertising in the Chamber directory is a win-win situation for your business and the Powell business community. Other advertising opportunities include the “Chamber Marketplace” on the back cover of the monthly newsletter, as well as flyer placement within the newsletter. If any of these opportunities are of interest, please contact the Chamber office at 614-888-1090.

On behalf of the Board of Directors I am excited to announce the hiring of a familiar face to fill the Office Administrator’s role at the Chamber office. At the beginning of the year, Caroline Clabaugh will assume management of the day to day business activities of the office and work closely with the Board of Directors to execute on our daily mission of providing value to our members.

In closing, I would like to thank Amy Beery and Becky Frash for their incredible work and time dedicated to the Powell Chamber Board. At the same time, I welcome the new faces of Craig Sedoris, Bill Eddy and Dillon Anderson.

We look forward to helping your business prosper, exceed business goals and grow your network of contacts in 2010.

Sincerely,

President
